Topical Fluoride is used to remineralize weak enamel, this helps to prevent further loss of the tooth’s structure. If you have a tooth or teeth which have cold and hot sensitivity your dentist might recommend a regular topical fluoride application. This will strengthen the exposed root structure of your teeth causing a loss of the pain associated with tooth sensitivity. Typically, fluoride is also applied during Prophylaxis which is a regular dental cleaning. Usually this is done by a hygienist or a dental assistant in the office during your checkup.
The dentist may also recommend a toothpaste high in fluoride to help with sensitivity.
